Video Wall Parts

The digital world has grown at a scorching pace over the last twenty years. From watching movies on small 21" TV screens to watching football matches on huge screens placed at strategic points in stadiums, video systems have indeed evolved. The massive video screens we see at stadiums, airports and public places are called video walls. Can anyone forget the experience of watching a rock concert on gigantic screens in stadiums with mind boggling sound output? Corporate offices make use of these video wall for conferencing. This saves them time and money. In this 'flat' world, many huge corporations can make presentations for their clients across the globe, without leaving the country of their origin. The IT industry is a big time user of video walls. Trade expositions, Event planners, training seminars, and live entertainment shows make full use of video walls.

A video wall is made up of many video screens or monitors. These screens can be made of CRT monitors, LCDs or TVs. To get the gigantic picture, these are placed next to each other or side by side. Each screen can show only a part or a section of a video relating to the position in the range of screens. All the split images combine simultaneously to produce the overall effect of the larger picture. In other words, each frame in a video is split into various sections. This creates the large screen effect. Our brain sees and understand through our eyes, these quickly changing images and see the whole picture. This is a kind of a 'Gestalt' experience.

A CRT (cathode-ray tube) projector, uses a three colored light beam. This is made up of blue, green and red, to form images on the screen. These provide good picture quality and are reliable but they face one big limitation. The screen is made of glass and thus the size of the CRT is limited. An LCD (liquid-crystal display) monitor utilizes a transistor to charge and light up, thousands of pixels. While choosing an LCD or CRT, price and quality of the picture need to be measured up. LCDs are more energy efficient than CRTs.

Rear Projection allows projection of video footage in cases, where artificial light is needed. Or it is even used during daylight. The video is projected from behind a screen and can be viewed in front through a translucent screen. Projection TVs provide pictures bigger than that provided by CRT sets.
